What is DSF

...The sommelier`s job is first and foremost to guide
the restaurant guests in their choice of beverage.

The sommelier is often in charge of wine cellar stocking
and replenishing. With good wine skills as well as knowledge
of gastronomy the sommelier is the one who matches wine
with the menu the restaurant serves.



What is the Sommelier Society of Denmark?

The Sommelier Society of Denmark was founded in 1989. The founders of the Society worked in Danish restaurants and they had an interest in how to match each wine on the wine menu with the various foods the restaurant serves. Through their work they had participated in national as well as international sommelier competitions. Thus the need for a Danish society occurred so that the Danish Society could extend the knowledge of sommeliers and improve the standards within the Danish restaurants.

With good wine skills as well as knowledge of gastronomy the sommelier is the one who matches wine with the menu the restaurant serves.

The committee of the Sommelier Society of Denmark consists of 7 honorary/unpaid members. The committee is elected on an annual general meeting and the committee`s primary goal is to attend to the members` interests. The work of the committee is hard but exiting.
The committee has also chosen an editor who is in charge of a newsletter called "The sommelier". The newsletter appears four times a year and it contains interesting articles, news from the wine world, its members etc.


How does one recognise a sommelier?
Today the Sommelier Society of Denmark has members in many of the well-established restaurants all over the country. You recognise their small golden screw pull pin. The pin proves that they are a specialist wine waiter.


What does the Sommelier Society of Denmark offer its competent members?
The Sommelier Society of Denmark is a member of Society de la Sommellerie Internationale that is the governing body for Sommeliers world-wide. ASI organises world championship for Sommeliers every third year.

The Danish Society holds competitions as well as a national championship that among other thing gives access to Trophée Ruinart and ASI - the Sommelier Mondial. Former Danish participants have shown that we can be very proud of our members and one day a Dane from the Sommelier Society of Denmark wins the Sommelier Mondial and will receive the medal accompanied by our national anthem.
